Maruti Suzuki Baleno Sales surpass 1 lakh units in India

Maruti Suzuki India on Tuesday said its premium hatchback Baleno has crossed cumulative domestic sales of one lakh units. Launched in October last year, it is one of the top selling models for Maruti Suzuki and has emerged as the leading premium hatchback in India.

In addition to domestic sales, 33,800 Baleno cars have been exported from India to global markets like Japan and Europe.

The Baleno, which is exclusively manufactured in India, is also the first car to be exported from the country to Japan. Maruti Suzuki plans to export the car to 100 international markets. Apart from Japan, the vehicle is being exported to Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Latin America.

All Baleno customers have received their cars through Nexa, the new retail experience by the company.

The petrol model is powered by the 1.2-litre VVT four-cylinder unit that produces 62 kW (83.11 hp) and 115 Nm of torque, and can be had with a 5-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission. The diesel model is powered by the 1.2-litre DDiS 190 four-cylinder unit that develops 55.2 kW (73.99 hp) and 190 Nm of torque, and can be had only with a 5-speed manual transmission.

By next month, the Maruti Baleno range will be expanded with a ‘RS’ variant that was showcased in concept form at Auto Expo 2016. The Maruti Baleno RS will be powered by the K10C DITC 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine that churns out produces 82 kW (109.92 hp) and 170 Nm of torque (5MT)/160 Nm of torque (6AT).
